Mobile Services > Roaming Tips

Before You Travel

  • Check your account status before you travel, and settle all outstanding balances.
  • Check the list of bmobile roaming partners, paying special attention to their network frequency.
  • Check the frequency capabilities of your mobile phone.
  • Depending on the frequency of the bmobile roaming partner, you may require a phone which is:

Dual band refers to the capability of GSM network infrastructure and handsets to operate across two
    frequency bands.

A tri-band mobile phone will operate on three different frequencies, depending on the available network.

A quad-band mobile phone is operational on any of the four GSM frequencies. This is indeed the ultimate global phone.

  • Check that your phone battery is fully charged before you travel, and be sure to take along a power charger. For some countries, you may require a power converter to change from 110V to 220V.

Choosing a roaming partner
Once you have arrived at your destination, turn your mobile on, so that it can select a bmobile partner network. Once the phone has been registered to a specific network, the name of the mobile service provider will be displayed on the screen of your phone. If your mobile phone does not automatically select a network, you will need to do a manual network selection. Using the menu options on your phone, go to Network (or System) Selection and choose Manual. Then, simply select the bmobile roaming partner.

Making a call when roaming
For a local call within the roaming area - simply dial 1 plus the area code and telephone number.

For international calls - dial the international access code (1 or 011) plus area code and telephone number.

For some cities you may need to drop the 0 which comes before the country code. E.g. For England, drop the 0 before 44.

Receiving incoming calls when roaming
This is identical to if you were at home in Barbados. The caller simply dials your mobile number just as they would when you are in Barbados. Remember all incoming calls are billed while you are roaming, regardless of whether they are from a mobile phone.

Roaming Charges
Roaming rates vary between carriers, and may be subject to tax. Some carriers also charge for calls to toll free numbers and other special numbers. You can view roaming rates or, or visit a bmobile location, or call 1 800 804 2994 for further details.
